The city of dreams, Granada, which locates on the borders of Spain, is the last conquered city by Spaniards. Granada means ‘pomegranate’ in English. Actually, this word gives the hint of the feature of the city. Having the effect of two cultures; Arabic and Spanish makes it an extraordinary destination to visit.
Stroll around Calle Elvira! I think this is the best street of Granada as you have almost everything for having fun. Also its old architecture with the cobblestone pavement on the ground shows this part of the city much more interesting and gets you excited for exploring. There are many souvenirs shops in this street. They don’t sell typical ones on the contrary, they all original, a cultural mixture of the Spaniard and Arabic. While you are walking, look at the names of the shops. It is very common to see Arabic letters. So, what I mean is that there is harmony of two languages. Granada welcomes you where ever you are from! At night, the street finds its life with many students, people who are working, offering cheap Tapas (yummy, yummy) and drinks in Calle Elvira, and of course hippies who are living on the pavements of Calle Elvira.
Visiting Albaicin is a tradition for a tourist! See these beautiful houses in the daylight and at night. Climb to the top and find El Mirador! It has a perfect sight at night. At nights it becomes crowded but more entertaining than daylight. People are singing Flamenco, dancing together and express their admiration with one simple sound ‘Oleeee’.
You need a few days for seeing the entire city. Alhambra is an incredible palace of it. When I had been there the first time, I made a mistake for not reserving my ticket online and had waited so long time. It is very crowded as many tourists are visiting Granada just for Alhambra. It was the Arabic palace where Sultans were living in luxury before the victory of Spaniards.
Its multicultural style of life, unique Spanish accent omitting the sound ‘-s’ at the end, fiestas and siestas are all wonderful! Grana (if you tell Granada strong Andalusian accent) is my favourite city in Spain. Once you visit, Granada is calling you for a revisit!
